For many Australians, our superannuation will be the largest asset we own, so it’s important to make sure we understand how to best manage it.
Fortunately – according to Opel Nelson, Associate Financial Planner at Statewide Super – most superannuation funds (including Statewide Super) offer financial advice to their members which can help them to better understand and set up their superannuation to achieve their best possible outcomes.
“Superannuation doesn’t need to be something that you review all of the time, but it is a good idea to check in with your super from time to time” Opel said.
“To help our Statewide Super members make the most of their super, we offer three different levels of financial advice, with the right one for you, dependent on your needs.”
The three levels of advice Statewide Super offers includes:
“Our Contact Centre or Super Hub staff can help you understand how your super account works, and give you information about decisions you may need to make, such as who you would like recorded as your beneficiaries,” Opel said.
“As a Statewide Super member, you're also entitled to financial advice that relates to your Statewide Super account as part of your membership. This means that you can meet one on one with an associate financial planner, either by phone or face to face to get tailored advice related to your Statewide account in the areas of investments, contributions and insurances,” Opel said.
“An associate financial planner can work with you to make sure that you're getting the most out of your Statewide Super account, and that can be a great introduction to the benefits of personalised financial advice.”
Comprehensive financial planning
“Finally, the third tier of advice at Statewide Super, is comprehensive financial planning,” Opel said.
“This can extend into areas beyond your super to support your broader advice needs, which may include your partner’s financial and super related affairs, retirement planning or even possible Centrelink entitlements. We offer a no obligation first appointment to determine if there are areas where we can help you, and if you agree to proceed with comprehensive persona advice, you will be charged on a transparent fee for service basis.”
