School is out and the sun is shining. So grab your hat and pack some cold drinks…. it’s time to get out and explore South Australia during the holidays.
Whether you’re home with the children during the school holidays, or looking after the grand kids, here are some of the must-do family activities over December and January.

Where: City Library, Rundle Place, Rundle Mall, Adelaide
Come along to the Lego Club at the library in the City and let your imagination run wild. Build a house, design a spaceship or create a whole new world. Suitable for ‘kids’ aged 4 to 100 years. For more information go to www.cityofadelaide.com.au/libraries
Lights of Lobethal
When: Sunday 10 December – Saturday 30 December.
Time: After dark
Where: Lobethal, Adelaide Hills
The community of Lobethal has been lighting up the Lobethal Valley in the Adelaide Hills for more than 60 years. Today, the Lights of Lobethal is believed to be the largest community Christmas lights display in the southern hemisphere. The lights are on every night for everyone to enjoy. Wild Imagination – Nature Play Program
When: Sunday 14 January 2018 – Saturday 27 January
Time: Family sessions 10 am – 1 pm on 14, 20, 21 and 27 January. Kids only sessions (5-12 years) – 8.15 am – 5.15 pm on 17, 18, 24 and 25 January.
Where: East Terrace Parklands, corner of East Terrace and Halifax Streets, Adelaide.

Want to build a mud kitchen, or learn how to build a bush cubby? Join in for a session or a day of fun nature play adventure in the parklands. Children will experience water play, mud play (including a mud obstacle course), nature crafts, bush cubby building, tree climbing and lots more.
Santos Tour Down Under

Where: Adelaide and regional South Australia
The Santos Tour Down Under is a nine-day festival of bike racing. Experience the excitement of 14 race champions and 860 kilometres of racing across 81 South Australian towns. Get involved by taking part in the Family Day, the Bupa Mini Tour for Kids or the Bupa Family Ride.

Brush up on your water safety and survival skills, and have fun at the same time! VACSWIM is a government-funded initiative that’s been providing South Australian primary school children (ages 5 to 13) with water knowledge for more than 50 years. Semaphore Summer Carnival

Ride, walk or picnic Linear Park Trail
Where: Athelstone to West Beach
Following the Torrens River from the hills to the beach, this public access trail offers plenty of opportunities for rides, walks, picnics and play in beautiful settings.
Spend a day in nature

With some spectacular national parks close spread throughout South Australia, get back to nature with the family. Take a picnic and get some exercise. Some spectacular parks close to Adelaide include Morialta Conservation Park, Anstey Hill Recreation Park and Belair National Park.
