Death and Taxes: An overview Presented by Mellor Olsson Lawyers | There are many things to consider when someone close to you dies. What is often overlooked are the tax implications of deceased estates and the assets which pass to beneficiaries. Deceased estates are a type of trust which arises upon the death of an individual and holds assets including real estate, shares, bank deposits and personal possessions. Any income which is accrued following the date of death, such as rent or interest, also forms part of the deceased estate. There are particular taxation issues, such as income tax, capital gains tax (CGT) and superannuation tax, which can arise within this process. During this session, experienced Wills and Estates lawyer, Joe Anderson from Mellor Olsson Lawyers, will discuss the key taxation issues in deceased estates and provide some advice on what to be prepared for.
