Target Market Determination

What is a Target Market Determination (TMD)?

A TMD is a document which a product issuer must create for each financial product covered by the Product Design & Distribution legislation which:

  • Describes the 'target market' and outlines the likely objectives, financial situation and needs of consumers the product has been designed for;
  • Details the conditions or restrictions on the issue of the product;
  • Sets out the relevant information that must be provided to Statewide by distributors of our product at our required frequency.

Why does Statewide Super need to have TMDs for its superannuation products?

Statewide Super is required to have TMDs for its financial products because it is a requirement of the Treasury Laws Amendment (Design and Distribution Obligations and Product Intervention Powers) Act 2019 in order to assist consumers to obtain financial products that are appropriate for their objectives, financial situation and needs.

What do I need to do if I distribute Statewide Super products?

  • not engage in retail product distribution where the TMD may no longer be appropriate (we will inform you if this is ever the case);
  • take reasonable steps so that distribution of Statewide Super’s products is in accordance with the relevant TMD;
  • collect, keep and provide distribution information about Statewide Super’s products;
  • complete the required reporting to Statewide Super on a quarterly basis by completing the document here and submitting it to PDDOReporting@statewide.com.au within 10 business days of the end of the quarter;
  • inform Statewide Super within 10 business days of any significant dealing in a Statewide Super product which is inconsistent with the TMD by completing the ‘Significant Dealing Notification’ form and submitting it to Statewide Super and submitting it to PDDOReporting@statewide.com.au;
  • lodge a Complaint with Statewide Super by visiting Make a complaint where you have received a complaint from a consumer about Statewide Super’s product/s within 5 days of receiving the complaint;
