With more than 30 years’ experience in the financial services industry, Tony has held a broad range of Senior Executive Management positions for Statewide Super, Commonwealth Bank Australia, St George Bank and Bank SA.

This includes serving as Statewide Super's General Manager of Member Engagement, General Manager Commonwealth Private Bank and CEO of Symetry Limited (a wholly owned subsidiary of Commonwealth Bank) which provided investment and superannuation administration services to over 50,000 customers.

During his tenure with Statewide Super, Tony has been instrumental in creating our now ingrained ‘member first’ culture, instigating and advocating our Reconciliation Action Plan and championing proactive change for gender equality throughout Australia and the superannuation industry. 

Tony has a significant track record delivering profitable growth and major change initiatives across private banking, wealth management, financial planning insurance, superannuation and administration in Australia.

Tony is a member of the Chiefs for Gender Equity, Certified Financial Planner and holds an Advanced Diploma of Financial Planning. He has also undertaken executive development and advanced management programs through Adelaide University and CBA Leadership Development Programs.

Con Michalakis

Along with the Investment Committee, Con is responsible for managing Statewide Super’s over $10 billion in funds under management.

Prior to joining Statewide Super, Con was Director of Marketing and Client Services for Manhattan-based boutique investment firm Pzena Investment Management, where he was responsible for marketing the firm's products and services in Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Singapore. He was previously the Director, Head of Institutional Business, for Merrill Lynch Investment Managers based in Sydney. Con has also worked in London with Alliance Capital Management and was the first Australian practice leader of investment consulting for Watson Wyatt.

Con has a Bachelor of Mathematical Science from the University of Adelaide, a Masters of Science from the University of London and a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Strategy from Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford.

David Smelt

David Smelt

David is responsible for the finance, administration and business intelligence functions and has been at Statewide Super since 1 July 2012 as a result of the merger between Statewide and Local Super. He was actively involved with the transition of assets from the Local Super portfolio as part of the merger in 2012 including the change in custodian from JP Morgan to NAB Asset Servicing in 2013.

During his long tenure with Statewide Super, David has perfomed key roles including Investment Manager, Strategic Development and Head of Investment Operations. 

In these positions he has been responsible for ensuring the compliance of all investment operations, including all dealings with the Fund’s custodian, management of manager transitions, unit pricing, RG97 compliance and looking for opportunities for costs savings and efficiencies. He has also been responsible for managing the fund's Australian and overseas equities components and defined benefit structures. 

Prior to working at Statewide Super, David was Manager of Investments at Local Super, responsible for the overall management of the fund’s investment structures including the relationship with its asset consultant and Principal at Mercer with 15 years in various client related superannuation roles.

Julie Haines

With more than 15 years’ experience in the financial services industry, Julie is responsible managing Statewide Super’s people and culture function.

Julie and her team have a strong focus on driving a high performance culture, by creating innovative ways to engage and empower employees.    

Prior to joining Statewide Super, Julie spent 13 years in London working for the global US investment management firm, Dimensional Fund Advisors.  

Julie is a Certified Professional Member of the Australian Human Resources Institute.

Kristyn Verrall

Kristyn Verrall

Kristyn joined Statewide Super in 2014 and was appointed to the role of General Counsel in 2016.

She is responsible for the developing, tracking and reporting on the organisation-wide strategic plan together with administering the business’ statutory and prudential obligations, governance and risk. Her role also encompasses commercial legal advice and support to the business on a range of investment, operation and related legal matters.

Prior to joining Statewide Super, Kristyn was a Senior Associate at top-tier international law firm, Minter Ellison. She has over 20 years’ experience advising clients on complex commercial and legal matters and over 10 years’ experience working in the financial services industry.

Kristyn is committed to providing quality advice and is renowned for her strategic vision. She holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the University of Adelaide, a Bachelor of Commerce (Economics) from Melbourne University, a Master of Commerce (Finance and Accounting) from Deakin University and a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from the Law Society of South Australia.

Nicole Kinnear

Nicole Kinnear

Nicole is responsible for Statewide Super’s Marketing, Member Services and Public Affairs functions. This includes the brand strategy, media relations and community engagement throughout South Australia and the Northern Territory.

With close to 20 years' experience in strategic marketing and communication roles, Nicole joined Statewide Super in March 2016 and was Head of Marketing since May 2017 before taking on the new role in 2019. Nicole was the winner of the national Women in Financial Services Marketing Award in 2017. 

Prior to commencing at Statewide Super she was a Director of Brand Activation Company, Amplifi-ID. As a brand activations specialist, Nicole worked with national brands iiNet and Santos, local and state government departments and not for profit organisations to elevate brand awareness and maximise consumer engagement.

With five years spent heading up the marketing and engagement functions in South Australia’s largest local government organisation and five years with member based organisations YWCA Australia and YWCA Adelaide, Nicole is deeply committed to strengthening member engagement and passionate about working in the profit for member superannuation sector.

Nicole holds a Bachelor of Business (Marketing), a Post Graduate Diploma in Communications (PR) and a Master of Arts in Communications Management all from the University of South Australia and is a Certified Practising Marketer with the Australian Marketing Institute.

Lisa Palmer

With more than 15 years’ experience in financial services, Lisa joined Statewide Super in 2014. Lisa is responsible for driving growth and retention by boosting new employer growth, developing and maintaining key partnerships and ultimately making a real difference to the financial futures of Statewide Super members.

Providing oversight to the business development, internal and accredited financial advice, insurance and defined benefit functions, Lisa and her team have a strong focus on education and support. Her team are committed to empowering Statewide Super members, whether it is to guide a new member through the commencement of their superannuation journey or to support a retiring member realise the full benefits of their savings.

Lisa holds a Bachelor of Business (Accounting & HRM), an Advanced Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning) and is a Certified Financial Planner with the Financial Planning Association (FPA). Prior to joining Statewide Super, Lisa had extensive experience in Financial Advice, both as a practicing Financial Adviser and in leading advice teams. Her commitment to improving advice outcomes for all Australians also sees her working with the FPA on the Conduct Review Commission which regulates the conduct of FPA members to uphold professional and ethical standards within the advice profession.
