With more than 30 years’ experience in the financial services industry, Tony has held a broad range of Senior Executive Management positions for Statewide Super, Commonwealth Bank Australia, St George Bank and Bank SA.

This includes serving as Statewide Super's General Manager of Member Engagement, General Manager Commonwealth Private Bank and CEO of Symetry Limited (a wholly owned subsidiary of Commonwealth Bank) which provided investment and superannuation administration services to over 50,000 customers.

During his tenure with Statewide Super, Tony has been instrumental in creating our now ingrained ‘member first’ culture, instigating and advocating our Reconciliation Action Plan and championing proactive change for gender equality throughout Australia and the superannuation industry. 

Tony has a significant track record delivering profitable growth and major change initiatives across private banking, wealth management, financial planning insurance, superannuation and administration in Australia.

Tony is a member of the Chiefs for Gender Equity, Certified Financial Planner and holds an Advanced Diploma of Financial Planning. He has also undertaken executive development and advanced management programs through Adelaide University and CBA Leadership Development Programs.

Con Michalakis

Con Michalakis

Along with the Investment Committee, Con is responsible for managing Statewide Super’s over $10 billion in funds under management.

Prior to joining Statewide Super, Con was Director of Marketing and Client Services for Manhattan-based boutique investment firm Pzena Investment Management, where he was responsible for marketing the firm's products and services in Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Singapore. He was previously the Director, Head of Institutional Business, for Merrill Lynch Investment Managers based in Sydney. Con has also worked in London with Alliance Capital Management and was the first Australian practice leader of investment consulting for Watson Wyatt.

Con has a Bachelor of Mathematical Science from the University of Adelaide, a Masters of Science from the University of London and a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Strategy from Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford.

David Smelt

David Smelt

General Manager, Investment Operations & Administration GAICD

David is responsible for the investment operations and administration functions and has been at Statewide Super since 1 July 2012 as a result of the merger between Statewide and Local Super. He was actively involved with the transition of assets from the Local Super portfolio as part of the merger in 2012 including the change in custodian from JP Morgan to NAB Asset Servicing in 2013.

During his long tenure with Statewide Super, David has performed key roles including Investment Manager, Strategic Development Manager and Head of Investment Operations.

In these positions he has been responsible for ensuring the compliance of all investment operations, including all dealings with the Fund’s custodian, management of manager transitions, unit pricing, RG97 compliance and looking for opportunities for costs savings and efficiencies. He has also been responsible for managing the fund’s Australian and overseas equities components and defined benefit structures.

Prior to working at Statewide Super, David was Manager of Investments at Local Super, responsible for the overall management of the fund’s investment structures including the relationship with its asset consultant, and before that Principal at Mercer with 15 years in various client related superannuation roles.

Julie Haines

Julie Haines

Julie is responsible for managing Statewide Super’s people & culture function, including work health and safety. Her focus is on creating an employee-oriented, high performance culture through initiatives that support collaboration, innovation, engagement and enablement.

Julie has worked in the financial services industry for 20 years and has diverse experience across all aspects of human resources. Prior to joining Statewide Super, Julie lived in London for 13 years where she worked for global US investment management firm, Dimensional Fund Advisors.

Julie is a Certified Professional Member of the Australian Human Resources Institute.

Kristyn Verrall

Kristyn Verrall

Kristyn joined Statewide Super in 2014 and was appointed to the role of General Counsel in 2016.

She is responsible for the developing, tracking and reporting on the organisation-wide strategic plan together with administering the business’ statutory and prudential obligations, governance and risk. Her role also encompasses commercial legal advice and support to the business on a range of investment, operation and related legal matters.

Prior to joining Statewide Super, Kristyn was a Senior Associate at top-tier international law firm, Minter Ellison. She has over 20 years’ experience advising clients on complex commercial and legal matters and over 10 years’ experience working in the financial services industry.

Kristyn is committed to providing quality advice and is renowned for her strategic vision. She holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the University of Adelaide, a Bachelor of Commerce (Economics) from Melbourne University, a Master of Commerce (Finance and Accounting) from Deakin University, Graduate Diploma of Banking and Finance and a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from the Law Society of South Australia.

Nicole Kinnear

Nicole is responsible for Statewide Super’s Marketing, Member Services and Public Affairs functions. This includes member engagement and education through communications, the contact centre and the Statewide Super Hub, media relations and the Fund’s community engagement commitments throughout South Australia and the Northern Territory. Nicole chairs the Reconciliation Action Plan Committee and is a member of the Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees’ Indigenous Super Working Group.

With more than 20 years' experience in strategic marketing and communication roles, Nicole joined Statewide Super in March 2016. Nicole was the winner of the national Women in Financial Services Marketing Award in 2017.

Prior to commencing at Statewide Super, she was the director of brand activation company, Amplifi-ID. As a brand activations specialist, Nicole worked with national brands iiNet and Santos, local and state government departments and not-for-profit organisations to elevate brand awareness and maximise consumer engagement through activation and media relations.

With five years spent heading up the marketing and community engagement functions in South Australia’s largest local government organisation and five years with member based organisations YWCA Australia and YWCA Adelaide, Nicole is deeply committed to strengthening engagement with members and passionate about working in the profit-for-member superannuation sector.

Nicole holds a Bachelor of Business (Marketing), a Post Graduate Diploma in Communications (PR) and a Master of Arts in Communications Management all from the University of South Australia and is a Certified Practising Marketer with the Australian Marketing Institute.

Lisa Palmer

With more than 15 years’ experience in financial services, Lisa joined Statewide Super in 2014. Lisa is responsible for driving member growth and retention through developing and maintaining key partnerships, product development and ultimately making a real difference to the financial futures of Statewide Super members, whether via advice or the provision of meaningful insurance cover.

Providing strategic direction and oversight for business development, internal and external financial advice, insurance and product functions, Lisa and her team have a strong focus on education and support. Her teams are committed to the provision of member-focused products and services, providing quality experiences and empowering Statewide Super members, whether it is to guide a new member through the commencement of their superannuation journey or to support a retiring member realise the full benefits of their savings.

Lisa holds a Bachelor of Business (Accounting & HRM), completed the new educational requirements for Financial Advisers (including the FASEA accreditation) and is a Certified Financial Planner with the Financial Planning Association (FPA).

Simone Dyda

Simone Dyda

Simone joined Statewide Super in 2020 and is responsible for the finance and business performance functions.

Simone joins the Fund from Ernst & Young where she has spent the last 15 years working with clients in the Financial Services industry and for member based organisations. Simone has held various leadership roles, has strong strategic capabilities and excels in financial reporting, financial due diligence, regulatory and compliance matters, evaluation of systems and controls and financial risk management.

Simone holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting), Bachelor of Finance, Bachelor of Laws and is a Chartered Accountant. Simone also volunteers as Treasurer, Director and Chair of the Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee for the Operation Flinders Foundation.

Jason Muir

Jason Muir

Jason joined Statewide Super in 2020 and is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the Board’s risk management strategy.

He joined Statewide Super from Deloitte, where he was a Director in the firm’s Risk Advisory practice and has 13 years’ experience in risk management and assurance across a wide range of financial services institutions. He has led risk and compliance teams, including at BT Financial Group, where he supported the development of the risk and compliance framework for the advised and non-advised platform superannuation products, the simplification of member pricing and the removal of grandfathered remuneration from legacy products. In addition, he has worked with local financial institutions including People’s Choice Credit Union, Beyond Bank, Australian Executor Trustees Ltd, Super SA and HomeStart Finance.

Jason holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting / International Business) from Flinders University and is a member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand with a Chartered Risk Specialisation. Jason also volunteers as a Finance & Audit Committee Member for Volunteering SA/NT.

David Cook

David Cook

David joined Statewide Super in 2020 and is responsible for the efficient and effective operation of the ICT/Digital, Information Services, Project Management, Business Improvement and Facilities functions. David has more than 20 years’ experience in digital, technology and security, and has spent the last 12 years’ in superannuation and trustee services.

David has held a number of strategy roles including leading Digital and Technology for a statutory office in Queensland, and serving as the Head of Technology Strategy and Chief Security Officer for Sunsuper for more than 5 years. He has also managed process improvement, digital, security, and procurement and change management teams. He has sponsored and led a number of key projects including customer facing platforms, core system modernisations, transitions to cloud and the implementation of a number of prudential standards. David is passionate about helping organisations better service, and protect the interests of their members by combining customer experience and technology.

David has a Bachelor of Business (eCommerce) with Distinction from USQ, and a Masters of Business of Business Administration from QUT. He is also a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified in Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT), a PROSCI Qualified Change Practitioner and holds a number of other qualifications in human centred design and innovation.
