Statewide Super’s experienced Board of Directors are responsible for effectively managing your superannuation investment to help you achieve your future retirement goals. It’s a role our Board takes very seriously, working tirelessly to achieve great investment outcomes, ensure that members’ rights are protected, and oversee the strategic direction of the Fund.

Kenneth Williams B Econ (Hons), M App Fin, FAICD

Independent Chair

Kenneth was appointed by the Board as Independent Chair on 1 January 2017. He is also a member of Statewide Super’s Investment and Remuneration & Nomination Committees.

Kenneth was initially appointed to the Board by the Australian Services Union (ASU) as an independent director on 1 July 2012 and served as the Chair of the Statewide Super Investment Committee from 20 July 2012 to 31 December 2016.

Kenneth holds a Masters of Applied Finance, a Bachelor of Economics with Honours and was the recipient of a Mitsui Education Foundation Scholarship (Japan) and an Australian Commonwealth Treasury Scholarship.

With over 30 years’ experience in corporate finance, specialising in treasury and financial risk management, he also has extensive Board experience. His Directorship experience has spanned both large and small listed and private companies, not-for-profit organisations and superannuation funds including employer appointed Director of the Qantas Superannuation Fund, employer appointed Director of the Normandy Mining Superannuation Fund and independent Director of Local Super. He has also Chaired the Audit & Risk Committee of the APRA regulated Mortgage Insurance Company.

During his career, Kenneth has held senior finance executive roles with Normandy Mining Limited, Qantas Airways Limited and Renison Goldfields Limited.

Kenneth is also a director of the Lifetime Support Authority and is a Member of the Council and Finance Committee of Adelaide University.

Ian Steel BA, GAICD

Ian Steel BA, GAICD

Member Representative Director, appointed by the Australian Workers’ Union

Ian Steel has been a member of the Board since 11 June 2010.

Most recently, he was appointed by the Australian Workers’ Union for a term commencing on 1 January 2019.

Ian is Chair of the Member Services Committee. 

Ian holds a Bachelor of Arts (Politics) and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Ian’s passion for superannuation and drive for workers to enjoy a more comfortable and financially secure retirement makes him an active and valuable contributor to Board discussions.

Holding the role of Branch Assistant Secretary of the Australian Services Union for over three years, union organiser and educator for over fifteen years, and with extensive community involvement and activism for over twenty-five years, Ian brings decades of experience in representing and advocating for the best possible entitlements for employees across a range of industries.

John Woodward JP, MBA, CMACS, FAICD, GAIST

John Woodward JP, MBA, CMACS, FAICD, GAIST

Employer Representative Director, appointed by Local Government Association South Australia

John Woodward was nominated by the Local Government Association South Australia as an Employer Representative Director and was appointed to the Board on 29 July 2015.

John is Chair of Statewide Super’s Risk Committee and is a member of the Investment Committee.
As a Fellow of Australian Institute of Company Directors and Graduate of the Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees, with qualifications that include a Master of Business Administration, specialising in Technology Management and Project Management, John brings a wide-ranging expertise to the Statewide Super Board. John has over three decades of experience in technology-related change programs, projects and consulting services across industries including the health, water, energy, and entertainment sectors.
A Councillor with the West Torrens City Council, John is also a Non-Executive Director of West Beach Parks and The Hospital Research Foundation.

Employer Representative Director, appointed by Business SA

David Holston was nominated by Business SA as an Employer Representative Director and was appointed to the Board on 1 January 2017.

David chairs the Statewide Super Investment Committee and is a member of Statewide Super’s Remuneration & Nomination Committee.

David holds a Bachelor of Arts specialising in Economics/Politics, Diplomas in Education, Financial Planning and Superannuation Management and a Graduate Diploma of Business (Industrial Relations).

David’s previous experience as Executive Director at JANA Investment Advisors and a member of both the JANA Board and Research Committee, holds him in excellent stead to provide investment-expertise to the Statewide Super Board.

Prior to joining JANA in 1999, David held the positions of Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director at National Australia Trustees and National Financial Management respectively.

David was a previous Director of the National Australia Bank Staff Superannuation Fund, chairing their Investment Committee. He was also a Director of the Association of Super Funds Australia for over ten years and holds Life Membership.

David is also Chair of the Investment Advisory Committee to the Public Trustee in South Australia, the independent chair of the Local Government of South Australia Mutual and the Investment Consultant to the Adelaide based Wyatt Benevolent Fund.

Anne McEwen OAM, BA, MIB, GAIST (Adv) MAICD

Anne McEwen OAM, BA, MIB, GAIST (Adv) MAICD

Member Representative Director, appointed by the Australian Services Union (SA & NT Branch).

Anne McEwen was nominated by the Australian Services Union (SA & NT Branch) as a Member Representative Director and was appointed to the Board on 1 March 2017.

Anne chairs Statewide Super's Remuneration & Nomination Committee and is a member of Statewide Super's Risk Committee.

Anne has completed a Masters in International Business (Diplomacy and Trade). She also holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree.

Anne’s prior board appointments include as Presiding Member of the SA Parks and Wilderness Council and as a director of Forestry SA.

A former Senator for South Australia (2005- 2016), Anne was both the Chief Government Whip and Chief Opposition Whip in the Senate. Holding over fifteen Parliamentary Committee positions, Anne’s diverse career has seen her Chair both the Senate Selection of Bills Committee and the Senate Committee on the Environment and Communications. She was also Deputy Chair of the Human Rights Committee and a long serving member of the Senate’s Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade committees where she took a particular interest in South Australia’s defence industry and Australia’s trade relationships.

Prior to her parliamentary career, Anne was Secretary of the Australian Services Union (SA & NT Branch) and a member of the Australian Services Union National Executive Committee. While at the Union, Anne represented members working in the local government sector, was a member of the SA Local Government Research and Development Fund Advisory Committee and the SA Local Government Ministerial Advisory Committee as well as the SA Workers’ Rehabilitation and Compensation Advisory Committee.

Anne’s voluntary work includes as a former member of the Management Committee of the South Australian Working Women’s Centre and as National Co-Convenor and Finance Committee member of Emily’s List Australia, a national fundraising and advocacy organisation supporting women to run for Parliament.

Matthew Pinnegar LLB, BA (Comms & Economics), GAIST

Employer Representative Director, appointed by the Local Government Association South Australia

Matthew Pinnegar was nominated by the Local Government Association South Australia as a Employer Representative Director on 24 August 2017.

Matthew is a member of Statewide Super's Risk Committee.

Matthew holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Adelaide and a Bachelor of Communications with Applied Economics from the University of South Australia. Matt is also a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees.
He is the current Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Local Government Association.

His previous positions include as External Affairs Manager for BP Developments and he has over seven years of South Australian State Government experience including as Chief of Staff, Ministerial Adviser and Senior Adviser in numerous Government portfolios including Transport, Energy and Infrastructure, State/Local Government Relations, Industry and Trade, Regional Development and Fisheries.

Vincent Tremaine AM, B.Bus, FCPA, FAICD, GAIST

Employer Representative Director, appointed by Business SA

Vincent Tremaine was nominated by Business SA as an Employer Representative Director and was appointed to the Board on 1 January 2019.

Vincent was appointed as a Member (AM) of the Order of Australia on Australia Day 2020. He is a member of the Audit and Governance Committee and Member Services Committee.

Vincent holds a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) degree, he is a fellow of both CPA Australia and the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees.

Vincent is currently the Chairman of Riverland Water Holdings, Chairman of Southern Launch Pty Ltd, and on the Boards of Napier Port Holdings Ltd (NZ) and Green Industries SA.

In prior roles, Vincent was the CEO of Flinders Port Holdings Pty Ltd for 16 years, the Chairman of Business SA, the Chairman of Ports Australia and a Director of the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator. During his career he has worked in motor vehicle component manufacturing, printing, publishing, the food industry and advertising in roles including finance and accounting, sales, marketing, advertising and warehousing and distribution.

Emma Thornton LLB/LP

Emma Thornton LLB/LP

Member Representative Director, appointed by Australian Services Union (SA/NT Branch)

Emma Thornton was nominated by the Australian Services Union (SA/NT Branch) as a Member Representative Director and was appointed to the Board on 28 February 2019.

Emma is a member of Statewide Super’s Remuneration & Nomination Committee.

Emma was admitted to legal practice in 2002 and continues to work as a practicing lawyer. She started her career working for SA Unions and the Australian Council of Trade Unions. Emma has worked in private legal practice for 15 years in Adelaide and Brisbane, in boutique practices and a large national firm. Most recently Emma was the head of the Adelaide office of a national law firm before moving to a role as Practice Leader of the Employment and Industrial Law in an Adelaide based firm. Emma currently practices in employment and industrial law and workers compensation.  

Emma also sits on the Management Committee of the Working Women's Centre and was recently elected as a Trustee Director Representative on the board of the Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees (AIST) an industry peak body for profit to member superannuation funds.

Linda White LLB, B Comm

Member Representative Director, appointed by Australian Services Union (SA/NT Branch)

Linda White was nominated by the Australian Services Union (SA/NT Branch) as a Member Representative Director and was appointed to the Board on 23 September 2019.

Linda is a member of Statewide Super's Investment Committee and Member Services Committee.

She practised as a solicitor in private practice after gaining degrees in Law and Commerce from Melbourne University.

Linda is currently a Board member of the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, the Melbourne Cricket Ground Trust and the Portable Long Service Leave Governing Board and is Chair of the Chifley Research Centre and a member of the Australian Labor Party’s National Executive.

Linda has previously been a director of the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne, a member of the Australian Social Inclusion Board, Vice President of the ACTU and director of Industry Super Fund Legalsuper.

Grant Strawbridge BAcc, FAICD, FCPA

Grant Strawbridge BAcc, FAICD, FCPA

Employer Representative Director, appointed by Business SA

Grant Strawbridge was nominated by Business SA as an Employer Representative Director and was appointed to the Board on 9 July 2021.

An experienced Chief Executive Officer and Director with over 30 years’ in the financial services sector, Grant brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience in the areas of strategy formulation and execution, Board restructuring, leadership, governance, financial and risk management, organisational, cultural and digital transformation, and mergers and acquisitions.

Grant was the Chief Executive Officer of Credit Union SA Ltd from April 2009 to April 2020.

Grant has a Bachelor of Arts in Accountancy and is a Fellow of the Certified Practicing Accountants, Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Fellow of FINSA and was previously a Director of Data Action Pty Ltd.

Angas Story

Angas Story

Member Representative Director, appointed by SA unions

Angas Story was nominated by SA Unions as a Member Representative Director and was appointed to the Board on 29 July 2021.

Angas is the past Secretary of SA Unions the peak trade union body in South Australia. He has served on the Executive of SA Unions and the Australian Council of Trade Unions. He has an extensive background in industrial relations and policy development with a focus on employment conditions, superannuation, work health and safety, education and training, workforce planning, and skills development.

His board appointments include the South Australian Advisory Council, the Training and Skills Commission and the Industrial Relations Consultative Committee.

Prior to his appointment at SA Unions, Angas worked as an advocate for the Public Service Association and the Australian Education Union. He has worked in the Department of Trade and Economic Development and served as Chief of Staff to the Minister for Employment Training and Further Education. In a voluntary capacity, Angas is a member of the Industrial Relations Society of South Australia and has served on its Committee of Management. He is also a Trustee of the Port Adelaide Workers Memorial.
